On Vacation

I`m leaving the shops open, but I`m off on a short trip to visit my daughter and granddaughters. My son-in-law is away so I won`t be able to see him unfortunately.

I can`t wait to visit with my daughter and her girls. I know it will probably go by too fast though. So I plan to enjoy every single minute...

As I said the shops will be open, but I won`t be shipping anything until I return. I will ship on July 5th.
I hope everyone has a safe and happy Fourth of July.

Until then as always;

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NICK !

Usually on Tuesday I would be doing my Shop Of The Week choice. But today is a very special day. Not only is it the first day of Summer, but it will always be a more special day then that to me.

Today is my son Nicholas`s birthday, he turns 17 today, its so hard to believe he has grown so fast.

I`m very proud of him and love him with all my heart.

Seventeen years ago he changed my life forever. Through the good times and bad, he has managed to brighten my day. He`s extremely smart and in the higher percential of his class. He has a big heart and a wonderful future ahead of him. He is so smart the world is his. In the Fall he is entering his senior year of high school. I just can`t believe where the time has gone.

I remember rocking him to sleep, his first smile, (probably gas), making him laugh, he has the funniest laugh that makes you laugh with him. Those wonderful dimples when he smiles.

I remember waving goodbye when he got on the bus the first time he went to school, he didn`t cry I did. Every morning he would blow me a kiss when he left for school (until he got to old for it of course). And leaving him with his Aunt or Grandmother when I went to work, he didn`t want me to leave, at his Aunt`s house he would run down the driveway after my car when I left. I hated to leave him. Playing outside with him when he was little, he would hide behind the big oak tree and peek around it and I`d catch him.

Getting his first dog with his cousin Kim and us. I used to babysit his cousins and he`d make me and his cousin Kim laugh so hard with a phrase he started using. It was ABADEA ABADEA ABADEA !!! You had to be there...

I could go on and on, after all he is my son. But I will leave it at that.

Today he had to go for his senior portrait, like the last thing he wanted to do on his birthday. He is so handsome, I had to get some pictures to share with everyone. (That was like pulling teeth) He wanted out of the dress clothes ASAP when we got home. I had to grab that camera and get my pics FAST.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NICK

You are the best son I could ever had asked for!

Herb Of The Week - Chamomile

Chamomile is my herbal choice of the week.
Herbal remedy for stomach aches, colic, nausea, diarrhea and bloating just to name a few.
* Tooth infections, toothache, dental extractions and its known to cure baby exzema on the face.
Also as far as skin care goes, I use it in many skin care recipes for my shop, Au Naturelle.
It can be used to remove makeup or to disinfect the skin.

Dried Chamomile

I found a wonderful recipe for chamomile tea, if you have an herb garden or just access to these fresh herbs you can make yourself this great tea.

Chamomile Headache Tea

This tea relaxes and relieves headaches.
Add one-half ounce each of lavender, chamomile, and rosemary to a tea strainer and cover with a pint of boiling water. Steep for 10 minutes.
And for using dried chamomile you can make a fabulous shampoo using it dried with baby shampoo.

Basic Chamomile Shampoo

Steep two teaspoons dried chamomile flowers in one-half cup boiling water for 30 minutes. Strain the flowers out of the water and add the water to one cup all natural organic soap, or if you don't have some of that you can use plain organic baby shampoo.
Use as you might any other shampoo.
And for a soothing bath, try this recipe for dried chamomile.

Chamomile Skin Soothing Bath

Place all of the following in a medium size piece of cheese cloth: three tablespoons slightly crushed chamomile flowers, one tablespoon slightly crushed dried lavender, one-half cup oatmeal, two drops cedar essential oil, and one-fourth cup dried powdered milk. Place in your bath for soft, great smelling skin.
Thats All For Today!

Thursday

I`ve been slacking off here. I`ve been working on my shops and trying to pack for my vacation. I`m packing for three people, myself, my son and my husband. I should really let them do their own packing, god knows they`re old enough. But I might regret what they put in their suitcases. It could really be a terrible thing to let them do it themselves. So I will pack them up, that way I know they`ll be wearing clean underwear and socks. Just kidding! I really don`t mind doing it!

Moving on, I have these wonderful new candles in my shop, one is a 10 ounce and the other a 3 ounce. Both have reproduction vintage french labels. Its amazing what you can find online, I found these great vintage labels and reproduced them for my candleholders. The three ounce candle has a vintage french fruit label and is available in five different fruit scents of soy wax.
The 10 ounce candleholder has a vintage french label and is available in five unique fragrances.

I am paring down my handstamped ribbon supply so if you`re looking for a special finishing touch for wrapping up that gift, get it while I still have it. I won`t be producing any more new handstamped designs on ribbon until the Fall.

I am going to be doing more new jewelry designs over the summer for the Fall season. I know its only Spring still put time goes so fast.
Be watching for a Summer Clearance on a lot of jewelry items in my Christmas in July Sale
July 3rd
To
July 16th.

Thats about all for tonight.
If you have a chance stop by my shops!

Herb Of The Week - Tarragon

For few can resist the charm
Of a sprig of balm
Or the hope of becoming a paragon
By the tactful use of tarragon.

Margaret Brownlow, 20th century horticulturist and writer

Tarragon

Tarragon is one of the most important culinary herbs; it is known as one of the four Fine Herbs along with chives, chervil and parsley. Although there are two distinct varieties, French and Russian, only true French tarragon is valued for its flavor and aromatics. True tarragon is unique in that it cannot be started from seed, but must be propagated by a cutting.

Tarragon grows to two or three feet tall and likes moderate sun, preferring a little shade during the warmest part of the day. It grows well in a rich loamy soil that holds moisture, but drains well. Mulching is beneficial to this end.

Tarragon is unique in that during growth, it seems to have little aroma, yet after the leaves or tops are harvested, the oils concentrate and start emitting their unique tarragon sweet smell, similar to freshly cut hay.

I also found this great recipe for a salad dressing using tarragon. Serve with your fresh lettuce and cucumbers from the garden. If you grow shallots or chives, add those to your salad also.

Fresh Tarragon Salad Dressing Ingredients

½ cup Italian parsley leaves, finely minced
3 tablespoon fresh tarragon leaves, finely minced
1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, finely chopped
3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (This is the time to whip out the good stuff)
1 garlic, finely minced
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
½ teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon black pepper, fresh ground
Shake all of the ingredients together in a jar with a tight fitting lid. If you do not have such a jar then first whisk together all ingredients, adding the fresh herbs at the very end.
Toss the greens & the dressing in a large bowl, serve the salad on separate dish.

Thats all for today,
check back tomorrow for some
 new Etsy shop finds!
